Most "AI for ecommerce" roundups treat product recommendations, email personalization, dynamic pricing and inventory forecasting as the same category. They aren't. Each of these problems has a different best tool, and if you buy the wrong one, you pay $99+/month for a feature you could have gotten for free with Shopify Magic.
I tested the 8 tools below on a Shopify Plus store doing around $80k/month in revenue and a smaller BigCommerce store at ~$15k/month. Each tool was kept installed for at least 30 days so I could see real 30-day revenue impact instead of day-one marketing numbers.
What it does: Built into every Shopify store. Generates product descriptions, email subject lines, and basic image edits (background removal). Uses Shopify's own AI layer plus GPT-4 under the hood. Added store-level chatbot "Sidekick" in 2024.
Cost: Free for all Shopify merchants.
Best for: every Shopify store, period. Even if you buy Nosto or Rebuy later, Shopify Magic handles the boring stuff (description writing) for free.
Limitations: No cross-store personalization, no behavioral targeting, no email sequences. It's a writer's assistant, not a conversion optimizer.
What it does: Smart Cart upsells, post-purchase offers, reorder landing pages, checkout cross-sells. Built natively for Shopify and Shopify Plus. The AI learns from customer browsing behavior and predicts the next best product to show.
Pricing: Free for Shopify stores under 250 orders/month. Paid plans from $99/month (Starter) to $749/month (Scale) based on order volume. Shopify Plus starts at $299/month.
Real impact: On the $80k/month test store, Rebuy's Smart Cart generated an additional $3.80 per customer session through intelligent upsells over 30 days.
Best for: Shopify stores that already have traffic and want to increase AOV. If your traffic is low, Rebuy won't fix that — get Klaviyo first to build an audience.
What it does: Klaviyo is the dominant ecommerce email tool and in 2024-2025 they built an AI layer into nearly every feature. AI-generated subject lines, predicted send time optimization, product recommendations in emails, dynamic content blocks, and segmentation suggestions.
Pricing: Free for up to 250 contacts (with AI features included). $20/month for 500 contacts, scales to $150/month for 10,000 contacts. SMS billed separately.
Real impact: Klaviyo's AI subject lines improved open rates by 11% in my A/B test versus human-written subject lines on a 15,000-contact list.
Best for: Shopify and BigCommerce stores with any email list size. The free tier alone is worth more than most $99/month competitors.
What it does: AI-driven personalization across every touchpoint: product recommendations, content blocks, dynamic bundles, pop-ups, email, and onsite search. Where Rebuy is focused on cart/checkout, Nosto covers the full browse-to-buy journey.
Pricing: No public pricing. Contracts typically start at $1,000-$2,000/month based on revenue. Enterprise tier for Shopify Plus, Magento, Salesforce Commerce Cloud.
Real impact: Nosto's case studies show average 10-18% lift in revenue per visitor. That matches what I saw — around 14% RPV improvement over 30 days on the larger test store.
Best for: stores doing $500k+/year in revenue where the cost of Nosto (~$15k/year) is easily covered by a 5% conversion lift.
What it does: AI-powered product search that handles typos, understands natural language queries ("blue shirts under $50"), and learns from what customers click. Also does product recommendations and email flows.
Pricing: Starts at $99/month for small stores. Enterprise tiers go up to $500+/month based on catalog size and traffic.
Platform support: Shopify, BigCommerce, Magento, WooCommerce, PrestaShop. One of the few AI ecommerce tools with real WooCommerce support.
Best for: WooCommerce stores (where Nosto and Rebuy don't reach), or any store where default Shopify search is hurting conversions (search relevance improved ~60% in my test).
What it does: Creates conversational quizzes that ask customers questions and recommend products based on answers. The AI-powered version uses GPT-4 to make quiz conversations feel natural instead of form-like. Integrates with Klaviyo to push quiz answers into email segmentation.
Pricing: Starts at $50/month. AI features included from the $100/month plan. Enterprise at $500/month.
Best for: skincare, cosmetics, supplements, pet food, and any category where "what's right for me?" is the main purchase barrier. Not useful for commodity products.
What it does: Monitors competitor prices across Amazon, eBay, Google Shopping, and competitor websites. Automatically adjusts your prices within bounds you set. The AI considers demand elasticity, inventory levels and seasonality to recommend price points.
Pricing: From $99/month for up to 100 products. Professional at $199/month for 1,000 products. Premium at $399/month for 5,000 products.
Best for: stores where you compete on price and know your competitors closely. If you sell differentiated products (branded, unique), dynamic pricing won't help — your customers aren't price-shopping.
What it does: AI demand forecasting that predicts stockouts before they happen and optimizes reorder points. Accounts for seasonality, marketing calendars, lead times, and supplier variability. Integrates with Shopify, NetSuite, QuickBooks, Xero.
Pricing: Custom pricing based on SKU count and integrations. Typically $250-$1500/month for mid-size ecommerce.
Best for: multi-SKU stores (>500 products) where inventory mistakes cost real money. Single-product stores don't need this — use Shopify's built-in inventory alerts.

For a new Shopify store under $50k/month, the minimum viable AI ecommerce stack is:
That's $0/month for three AI layers covering content creation, email marketing, and cart conversion. Once you outgrow the free tiers (usually around $10k/month revenue), the first upgrades should be Klaviyo paid ($20-$150/month depending on list size) and Rebuy Starter ($99/month).
At $200k+/month revenue, add Nosto for the full-journey personalization lift (~14% in my testing, which on $200k/month is $28k/month in new revenue — the Nosto contract pays for itself in days).
Skip Prisync and Netstock unless you have the specific problem they solve (price competition and multi-SKU inventory complexity respectively). Don't buy them because they sound useful.
Our AI Customer Service Tools guide covers Gorgias, Intercom Fin and other tools specifically for handling ecommerce support tickets.
Read the support AI guideRebuy has a free plan for Shopify stores under 250 orders/month. Klaviyo AI features are included on their free tier (up to 250 contacts). Shopify Magic is free to all Shopify merchants. Tidio Lyro includes 50 free AI conversations/month. Everything else on this list starts at $99+/month.
Nosto publishes average customer data showing 10-18% revenue per visitor uplift after 30 days. Rebuy customer case studies cite $3-5 extra per session from upsells. Klaviyo's AI-generated subject lines show 10-15% open rate improvements in A/B tests. These are real published numbers but they assume you have traffic to convert in the first place.
Shopify Magic covers product descriptions, email subject lines, and basic image editing. It does not do cross-store personalization, dynamic cart recommendations, or cross-channel behavioral targeting. Use Shopify Magic as a baseline, add Rebuy or Nosto when you want to optimize conversion beyond what Shopify's built-in features provide.
Clerk.io has the best WooCommerce support of the paid tools — it has a native WordPress plugin and the AI search works on WooCommerce product catalogs. Nosto supports WooCommerce via custom integration but most features are Shopify-first. Klaviyo works with WooCommerce via Zapier but the integration is less tight than Shopify. If you are on WooCommerce, start with Clerk.io.
